What is GUID?

A globally unique identifier (GUID) is a 128-bit binary value (16 bytes) used in computing and networking wherever a unique identifier is required. The possibility of GUID duplication is extremely low. The GUID format is "xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx", where each 'x' is a hexadecimal digit (0-9 or a-f).
